The following are some steps you can do if you want to try making tissue paper flowers:

  • To make these flowers you will need tissue papers, a scissor, chenille stems, and a ruler. The tissue papers can be of different colors per paper flower or a combination of colors per paper flower. You will need about four to six pieces of tissue paper per flower.
  • After preparing all the necessary materials, clear your work area and make sure that it is spacious enough to lay-down and spread the tissue paper. It is best to have enough space to place other materials needed such as scissors and ruler plus allow some elbow room especially when children are involved to avoid minor accidents.
  • Stack up four to six tissue paper. Using yours or your children’s imagination, select the color combination. Place the tissue papers on top of each other squarely to give it balance.
  • Using the ruler measure 5 inches by 7 inches and cut it to create a sized rectangle. Although you may use the whole tissue paper to make the flower, 5” X 7”rectangle are ideal, since a larger sizes have the tendency to sag after a while thus losing its aesthetic value.
  • Starting from the long end, fold the tissue in an accordion like manner. Use the ruler to measure and fold the paper. The recommended thickness of the fold is from 1 to 2 inches and you can use the ruler to ensure the uniformity of the folds.
  • Cut both end of the folded tissue to make a rounded or pointed end. Apply your imagination to make the edges as close to how you envision the edges of the petals to look like. With whatever design just ensure uniformity.
  • Measure the midpoint of the folded tissue paper and use the chenille stem to tightly tie it up in the middle. Allow one to two inches of the chenille stem for this purpose.
  • Carefully pull or open each of the individual folds around the chenille stem separating each layer to form the colorful petals of your tissue paper flower. Keep in mind to do it gently since tissue papers are easily torn.
